Medicare help in Louisiana
Legacy Life Group holds a Louisiana insurance license and helps Louisiana residents compare Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and prescription drug plans, at no cost.
Why local plan comparison matters in Louisiana
The Medicare Advantage plans available to you, their provider networks, their drug formularies and their premiums are set at the county level. Medicare Supplement pricing also varies by state and by carrier. A plan that is excellent one county over may not even exist in yours.
As independent agents serving Louisiana, we compare the plans that are actually offered where you live, check them against your doctors and your medication list, and give you a straight recommendation. If staying put is your best move, we will tell you that too.

Medigap rules in Louisiana
Louisiana has a Medigap "birthday rule." Each year, starting on your birthday, you have 63 days to switch to a Medigap plan with the same or fewer benefits from your current insurer (or its affiliates), with no health questions. Louisiana also opens Medigap enrollment to people under 65 who have Medicare because of a disability or ESRD, during the 6 months after Part B starts.
Help paying for Medicare
If your income is limited, a Medicare Savings Program can pay your Part B premium and sometimes more. In Louisiana, apply through the Louisiana Department of Health (Louisiana Medicaid). For help with drug costs, you can also apply for Extra Help through Social Security.
Free counseling and license checks
LaSHIP (Louisiana Senior Health Information Program) offers free, unbiased Medicare counseling at 1-800-259-5300. You can look up any agent's license, including ours, with the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

What is Louisiana’s Medigap birthday rule?
If you already have a Medigap plan, Louisiana gives you 63 days each year, starting on your birthday, to switch to a plan with the same or fewer benefits from your current insurer or its affiliates, with no health questions. It can be a way to lower your premium without medical underwriting.
