Medicare help in Tennessee

Legacy Life Group holds a Tennessee insurance license and helps Tennessee residents compare Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and prescription drug plans, at no cost.

Why local plan comparison matters in Tennessee

The Medicare Advantage plans available to you, their provider networks, their drug formularies and their premiums are set at the county level. Medicare Supplement pricing also varies by state and by carrier. A plan that is excellent one county over may not even exist in yours.

As independent agents serving Tennessee, we compare the plans that are actually offered where you live, check them against your doctors and your medication list, and give you a straight recommendation. If staying put is your best move, we will tell you that too.

What we help Tennessee residents with

  • Turning 65 and enrolling for the first time
  • Comparing Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement
  • Annual plan reviews during AEP (October 15 - December 7)
  • Part D drug plan selection based on your prescriptions
  • Life insurance, fixed annuities and hospital indemnity plans

Medicare in Tennessee: what's different

Medicare is a federal program, but a few important rules and resources are set state by state. Here is what applies in Tennessee.

Medicare Advantage in Tennessee

About 57% of Tennesseans with Medicare Parts A and B are in a Medicare Advantage plan in 2026. Tennessee has about 1.5 million people on Medicare.

Medigap rules in Tennessee

Tennessee requires insurers that sell Medigap plans to also offer them to people under 65 who have Medicare because of a disability or ESRD. You can apply within 6 months of enrolling in Part B, losing employer coverage, or losing Medicaid. Tennessee has no "birthday rule" for switching plans. A 2026 bill to add one did not pass.

Help paying for Medicare

If your income is limited, a Medicare Savings Program can pay your Part B premium and sometimes more. In Tennessee, apply through the Division of TennCare (TennCare Connect). For help with drug costs, you can also apply for Extra Help through Social Security.

Free counseling and license checks

Tennessee SHIP offers free, unbiased Medicare counseling at 1-877-801-0044. You can look up any agent's license, including ours, with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (through the NAIC license lookup).

Do you charge Tennessee residents for help?

No. Our services are free. We are paid by the carriers when you enroll, and your premium is the same either way.

Can you help me remotely?

Yes. We work with clients by phone and video across every state we serve, and everything can be handled without an office visit.

Can I buy a Medicare Supplement in Tennessee if I am under 65?

Yes. If you have Medicare because of a disability or ESRD, Tennessee law requires insurers that sell Medigap to offer you a plan within 6 months of enrolling in Part B, losing employer coverage, or losing Medicaid. Premiums can be higher than at 65.
